As you\u2019ll probably know by now, getting your driving licence isn\u2019t just a matter of being able to drive a car \u2013 you\u2019ll also need to pass the driving theory test.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The theory test has 2 parts: the multiple-choice and the computerised hazard perception test and you\u2019ll need to pass both in the same sitting. If that all sounds a bit daunting don\u2019t worry, there\u2019s loads of help available online as well as practice tests that you can take to prepare.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

To practice for your Hazard Perception Test, we recommend Drive iQ<\/a> \u2013 a free online resource where you can practice scanning the road effectively, identifying distractions and looking out for cyclists with their interactive video clips. \r\n\r\n

On the day\u2026<\/h2>\r\n\r\n

Before you take the hazard perception test you\u2019ll be shown a brief video about how it works. It\u2019s well worth watching the video in advance since it gives a really clear explanation of the test as well as example questions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Taking the test<\/h2>\r\n\r\n

After the introductory video you\u2019ll start the test itself,! You\u2019ll be shown 14 video clips<\/strong><\/em> each about a minute long, featuring every day driving situations with a number of potential hazards and importantly one \u2018developing hazard\u2019. One of the clips will be a little different and will contain two<\/strong><\/em> developing hazards but you won\u2019t know in advance which one. It\u2019s these developing hazards that you\u2019ll need to identify in order to pass the test.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
