Even if you haven\u2019t passed your test and you\u2019re still learning, you may find yourself in the position of having a passenger other than your practice partner in the car.<\/p>\n\n

And once you\u2019ve passed, it\u2019s almost certain those lift requests are going to come rolling in.<\/p>\n\n

So, here\u2019s 5 tips for making sure your passengers don\u2019t drive you to distraction.<\/p>\n

    Remember: seatbelts don\u2019t only save lives<\/h2>\n\t\n

    When you\u2019ve not been driving long, it\u2019s really important to minimise distractions. So if you\u2019ve got 3 loud mates jumping around in the back, reaching into the boot, leaning forward to punch you..? It\u2019s a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n\n

    In this instance, seatbelts are an excellent restraint as well as a legal requirement. They\u2019ll come in handy in a crash but they\u2019ll also keep your friends nicely strapped down so you can focus on driving.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n

  2. \n

    Make a playlist<\/h2>\n\n

    If you\u2019re going on a long drive, ask your passengers for song suggestions so you can make a playlist before you set off.<\/p>\n\n

    Not only will this minimise distracting arguments, it\u2019ll also cut down on the amount you have to fiddle with your stereo, or be annoyed by other people doing the same.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n

    Don\u2019t agree to drive drunk friends when you\u2019ve just passed<\/h2>\n\n

    Drunk people are pretty much the worst if you\u2019re sober. But when you have to drive home with them telling you they love you, trying to get out of the car or even threatening to be sick, you\u2019ve reached a new circle of hell.<\/p>\n\t\n

    It\u2019s not a good idea to be the designated driver<\/a> if you haven\u2019t been driving very long because it takes a lot of experience to stay safe with all that nonsense going on around you.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n

    Ignore criticism<\/h2>\n\n

    Dave might think he\u2019s the best driver in the world but he\u2019s in YOUR car and if he doesn\u2019t like it, he can walk.<\/p>\n\t\n

    Yeah, it\u2019s annoying to have someone rinse your driving, but remember that good old Dave-o isn\u2019t actually qualified to tell you what you\u2019re doing wrong and probably makes some pretty silly mistakes himself.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n

    They say never work with children or animals\u2026<\/h2>\n\n

    Kids and pets are another big distraction. Although you\u2019ll probably have both as passengers at some point, it\u2019s best to wait a while until you\u2019re 100% confident.<\/p>\n\t\n

    If you do have to drive a child or animal somewhere, remember this: they\u2019re unpredictable. Make sure they\u2019re very securely settled in their seat and check online for regulations regarding things like child seats. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n
